Poppies in Red Vase

Stylish 1960s painting of abstract poppies in a red vase on an orange tablecloth. The artist expertly uses the rule of thirds here, with the vase positioned in the right-hand third of the canvas, with the poppies extending further into the frame.

Signed Gunnar Hållander (1915-1980), dated '66. Both academically trained and self-taught, Hållander's works can be seen in the National Museum in Stockholm as well as the Sundsvall Museum and the Swedish Institute in Paris.
