Flowers and Black Cat

Beautiful dramatic English still life oil painting of a little black cat, with a white nose, peeking out from behind a bowl of rusty-red chrysanthenums. Petals fall onto the patterned cloth on the table. In the background is a milk jug of blue forget-me-nots, perhaps a metaphor for the passing of time?

Signed Stanley Clarke-Hutton 1898-1984, an established book illustrator who studied at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London, illustrating over 50 books in his career.
